Shanza Munir, an Information Technology student of Government University Faisal Abad, has invented a smart shoe for the blind.

She pointed out that the shoes will help the visually impaired navigate through their pathways.

The smart shoes were part of Shanza’s University project. There were designed specifically for the visually impaired.

Shanza said that she was hoping the shoes will be the “assisting gadget and ultimate guide” for such individuals.

Reports revealed that the manufacturing cost for a pair of the smart shoe is between Rs 10,000 and Rs 12,000 approximately $140 to $169. She noted that the price would reduce for mass production.

Shanza aims at producing the shoes on a larger scale if the authorities show interest and sponsor the mass production.

“The shoes have in-built vibration sensor that alert the wearer of any upcoming blockage,” Shanza said.

“The shoes will also detect and alarm the user of any hurdle coming their way within a defined radius of 200 centimeters,” she added.
