Saudi students shine at European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad in Georgia

Saudi students Fatima Buali and Retaj Al-Saleh showcased notable achievements at the 2024 European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) hosted in Georgia. Hailing from Al-Ahsa City, Fatima Buali secured a bronze medal, while Retaj Al-Saleh from the Eastern Region garnered an honorable mention.

The success of Buali and Al-Saleh underscores the rigorous selection process and intensive training facilitated by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. Their accomplishments reflect the culmination of concerted efforts aimed at nurturing and honing mathematical talent within Saudi Arabia.

This year’s EGMO attracted participation from 212 students representing 54 nations, emphasizing the event’s global significance as a platform for fostering mathematical prowess among young women worldwide. Saudi Arabia’s consistent engagement in EGMO over the years has yielded commendable results, with a cumulative record that includes two gold medals, six silver medals, thirteen bronze medals, and seven honorable mentions across twelve editions of the competition.
