By MP ReportersThe United Nations Secretary general, Antonio Guterres has expressed his displeasure over the rate of attack and casualties in New Delhi.
Guterres called for exercise of restraint on the situation.
Stephane Dujarric, Guterres’ spokesman, expressed how saddened Guterres is over the situation which has caused at least 34 dead and 200 more injured.
“He’s very saddened by the reports of casualties following the protests in Delhi, and as he has done in similar circumstances, he calls for maximum restraint and for violence to be avoided,” Dujarric said.
Dujarric also said that Guterres is closely following the situation in Delhi and said that protesters should be allowed to peacefully demonstrate while security personnel should exercise restraint on the protesters.
Speaking about the situation in Delhi on Thursday, Raveesh Kumar, the Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, said that the law enforcement agencies are doing anything within their capacities to make sure that peace is restored in the country.
“Senior representatives of the government have been involved in that process,” he said.
He further said that the prime minister has called for peace and unity “brotherhood” in the country to help fast track the peace restoration process.
“The prime minister has publicly appealed for peace and brotherhood,” he added.
Kumar has thus appealed to the public to restrain form spreading information that could further worsen the situation. .
