Washington DC – The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI) a faith-based coalition of 34,000 churches comprised of 15 denominations and 15.7 million African Americans, is calling on senatorial candidate Roy Moore to drop out of the race in light of the devastating accusations against his moral character. The Roy Moore case should teach all Christians a very important lesson, that what is done in the dark, according to Scripture shall come to light.

The Bible says that just because you call me Lord, and you hold your Bible in the air for everyone to see, does not mean that you are Righteous. Most of the time it means you are unrighteous because you are wielding your Bible as a weapon, which it is, against people who are even outside of the Church, that is right about your character. This is why the Scripture says we all must repent. So, Roy Moore who is being accused by a 14-year-old, when he was 32, is something that will stain the witness of the Christian Church. The mere allegations in itself can be questioned, even from a 14-year-old, but when there is a preponderance of the evidence, more than 6 women that said he did the same thing to them, it is difficult to give Roy Moore the benefit of the doubt. This is why the Church wants him to step away and end his candidacy before he brings permanent stains against the Christian Church.

Rev. Anthony Evans, President of the National Black Church Initiative says, “I do not like the notion that someone can accuse you and ruin your life. It is against Biblical teachings and the teachings of our laws because an accusation does not mean guilt. However, when you are running for Public Office and you know you have done something to certain groups of people, and when they make that known, you cannot all of a sudden cloak yourself as a victim of the Gospel because you have sinned.

The Bible says that you should repent of your sins and part of the repentance of sin is owning up and knowing that you cannot do certain things in the future. The Christian community of Alabama know that Roy Moore has been a staunch pillar of the Christian Church, that we will give him credit for. We cannot give him credit when he abuses his authority as an adult and an officer of the court to harass, abuse and assault children in the eyes of the Church.”

The National Black Church Initiative is a conservative organization and we have not hesitated to go after the sexual predators like Mark Halperin and we have consistently gone after both the Catholic Church and the homosexual community for their abuse of children. When a conservative Christian like Roy Moore runs for the Senate seat in Alabama and he has these accusations against him, the Black Church is not hesitant in going after him as well because ultimately, he hurts the message of the Gospel.
