 Halabaja: An earthquake stoke Iran and Iran’s border, according to the Asian correspondent Huzaifa Liaquat, nearly 400 people died including 4200 injured and the death toll expected to rise due to a massive destruction in that area.

The correspondent told MCR, “The earth quake has shaken with the magnitude 7.3 on rector scale.

“The origin of the earthquake was the northern border region in Halabaja between Iran and Iraq, killing about 400 people and injuries more than 4000 people.”

“The quake hit at 09:18 local time (18:18 GMT) about 19 miles (30km) southwest of Halabaja, near the northeastern border with Iran,” the US Geological Survey (USGS) said, “It occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 23.2 km (14.4 miles), and tremors were felt in Turkey, Israel and Kuwait.”

Geologists said, “In the south-east of the country, the Arabia plate is actually pushing under the Eurasia plate, but in the northwest these great slabs rub directly against each other.

“The Zagros mountains are a result of all this compression.”

It had been reported the majority of people who died, were in Iran’s western Kermanshah province at least 70,000 people needed shelter after the quake.

Capital official news Agency of Iraq stated, “Nearly 7 people died in Iraq, people fled into streets in the capital of Baghdad.”

One mother said, “I was sitting with my kids having dinner and suddenly the building was just dancing in the air,” she added, “I thought at first that it was a huge bomb. But then I heard everyone around me screaming: ‘Earthquake!”

Irna, Iranian states news Agency quoted the emergency situation in Iranian hospitals and 3,950 were injured only in Iran.

It had been told, “Most of the victims were in the town of Sarpol-e Zahab, about 15km (10 miles) from the border, Iran’s emergency services chief, Pir Hossein Koolivand was quoted as saying on Iranian state television channel Irinn.

“The town’s main hospital was severely damaged, leaving it struggling to treat hundreds of wounded.”

Red Crescent Organization told, “Many homes in the mountainous area are made of mud bricks and are at risk of collapse in a significant earthquake like the one that struck on Sunday.

“Some other villages have suffered power cuts and their telecommunications system has also been disturbed.”

While on the other hand, Khurdish Health Minister Rekawt Hama Rashedd told, “The situation there is very critical.”

“For a few seconds at first it was barely detectable, I wasn’t sure whether it was a minor tremor or just my imagination,” The News reporter told, “But soon enough it was unmistakable as the building started swaying from side to side.”

Furthermore, proclaimed by the analysts and geologists that region was famous for earthquakes but that time it brought a massive destruction.
