Jackson Heights, NY – Yesterday NYC Council Member Daniel Dromm (D-Jackson Heights, Elmhurst) hosted a ceremony celebrating the street co-naming of 34th Avenue and 80th Street as “Dr. Dolores Beckham Way.” Dromm was joined by members of the Beckham family, State Senator Jose Peralta, Democratic District Leader Maureen Allen, IS 145 Principal Ivan Rodriguez, Council of School Supervisors and Administrators President Mark Cannizzaro, 115th Precinct Inspector Michele Irizarry and other guests.  The IS 145 Choir and Band played several numbers throughout the course of the ceremony.

The street co-naming honored Dr. Dolores Beckham, the late, beloved principal of the Joseph Pulitzer School, IS 145, who passed away on October 5th 2016. Dr. Beckham was a resident of Jackson Heights for almost two decades and the principal of I.S.145 for the last 17 years.  The ceremony took place just feet away from both the school and Dr. Beckham’s home.  Council Member Dromm passed legislation to have the street named after her.

“Dr. Dolores Beckham was a Jackson Heights icon,” said Dromm.  “She was an exemplary educator.  Thanks to her visionary leadership, IS 145’s dual language program became one of the best in the city and served as a model for other schools.  Dr. Beckham’s hard work and dedication took IS 145 to new heights, and I am pleased to host this co-naming in her honor.”
