DROMM, STAFF & JACKSON HEIGHTS TAKE A KNEE BECAUSE BLACK LIVES MATTER
Jackson Heights, NY – Today NYC Council Member Daniel Dromm (D-Jackson Heights, Elmhurst), staff members and Jackson Heights resident Dawn Siff “took a knee” in front of Dromm’s district office on 75th Street in Jackson Heights. The demonstration was in recognition of and in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in light of the recent controversy surrounding President Trump’s remarks about National Football League players refusing to stand during the national anthem.
“While President Trump attacks people of color on Twitter, we kneel in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and all those protesting racial injustice in the United States,” said Dromm. “The fact is, racism is a real and serious problem in our country. As Americans, it is our duty to call out racism and fight back against it with all of our might. Protesting inequality is patriotic. We need to be allies to those struggling with racism and police brutality on a daily basis. Trump should take a break from social media and learn a thing or two about diversity from Jackson Heights.”
