The rate at which bomb attacks in mosques is increasing has raised concerns. Recently, five people were killed in a suicide bomb attack on a mosque in the Far North region in Cameroon. This is one of its kind and as a result, it has instigated many people to wonder why such attack had to take place.

In confirmation of the bomb attack, Seiny Boukar, the mayor of Kolofata explained how the attack happened:

“The suicide bomber, a boy of about 15 years, infiltrated a mosque in Sanda-Wadjiri, a village south of Kolofata. The attack took place during the morning prayers, at 5.30 a.m. local time (0430GMT).”

In addition, reports confirmed that the explosion injured six people and destroyed part of the mosque. Also, a security official who seek for anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to media personnel claimed that the terrorist group Boko Haram is behind the attack. He said the strategy used in executing the attack is that of the sect.

As part of the deaths recorded, Boukar Yasalou, local leader of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, was confirmed to be among those killed. Records confirmed that Boko Haram has killed 25 people, including three soldiers, in the Far North in August, according to the Defense Ministry. Also in June, the ministry announced the recruitment of more than 7,000 gendarmes and military personnel as part of the fight against Boko Haram.

The issue of Boko Haram attacks is presently getting out of hand. Many believed that the sect is an Islamic terrorist group but of recent, the sect is now responsible for attacking Islamic congregations. Around 26 million people in the Lake Chad region have been affected by Boko Haram violence according to history and more than 2.6 million displaced. This has been confirmed by the United Nations.

Further more, Cameroon is part of a regional task force that aims to eradicate the militant group that has so far killed more than 2,000 people in the country, according to government officials. The government is working really hard to eradicate all terrorists in the country. Security sector has recently been boosted to curb terrorist attacks leading to lost of lives and properties.

The victims of this recent attack have explained how tragic the attack has made them. Many of them have been reported to be hospitalized due to the injuries sustained while some were already dead. The government has been called upon to further boost the security service in public places to protect the innocent people.
