CHAIRMAN CHARLES M. COOPER JR.’S STATEMENT ON THE TERRORIST ATTACK IN BELGIUM

Today, Africans in New York express our deepest condolences to the people of Belgium for the heinous attacks that took place in Brussels today. One of the attacks near the American Airlines counter and the other near a Starbucks – symbols of the United States of America.

The Council stands in solidarity with Belgium to deliver justice to these terrorists and those who sent them, and to defend our communities in New York and around the globe from terrorists and would be terrorists.

This is an important moment for our nations and for the world. These barbaric terrorist groups and its murderous ideology pose a serious threat to all of us– now more than ever here in the U.S.– and it cannot be tolerated. We must work together, the African community in New York with law enforcement to stop terrorism on our soil and across the globe.

This was not an attack against one of the world greatest cities, it was an attack against what we believe in- liberty and democracy- it was an attack against the world itself. The Belgians stood with us during 9/11 and today we stand with you – in the spirit, with heavy but strong hearts.

Nos pensees et nos prieres sont avec le people belge. Soyons solidaires et unis avec eux.
