Olusegun-Obasanjo
Some of the parents of the 200 girls who were kidnapped two months ago by Boko Haram have appealed to former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, to help them in rescuing their daughters.

This comes at a time when Obasanjo had just revealed to the media in Nigeria that he had contacts with Boko Haram.

Obasanjo told the press yesterday, “I have ways of communicating with Boko Haram members, but the government has not permitted me to do so.”

He added on that he was frustrated in his bid to secure the release of the over 200 schoolgirls, saying that although he has ways of reaching the sect, Nigerian government has not permitted him to negotiate with the terrorists.

One of the parents, Damalie Eyotu said,”If Obasanjo has a way of reaching Boko Haram, why doesn’t the government request him to negotiate with them for the release of our children? The government should use all means available to get the girls.”

A relative of one of the abducted girls, Bob Ochuku said that it seems the government is not serious about rescuing the girls. ”If people like Obasanjo come out with intentions meant to help in rescuing the girls but the government simply ignores them, then there is something wrong with our government,” said Ochuku.

During an interview with the press yesterday, Obasanjo  made some remarks regarding  the fate of the girls. He said that some of them would be made pregnant by Boko Haram and may be set free.

“Perhaps, succeeding generations would continue to remember those female students who were abducted. Only those that would later get pregnant and the sect members would find it difficult to cater for the babies in the forest might be released,” he said.

Boko Haram militants have of recent become a thorn in the flesh of Nigerian government carrying out several attacks on unarmed civilians. After abducting the girls, they have have carried out attacks in villages where  over 100 people have been killed.
