The Acting Deputy Mufti of Uganda His Eminence Sheikh Khatwib Mukuluwakika has urged Muslim leaders in Africa to embrace team work in order to bring about unity and development.

He said this while presiding over the inauguration ceremony of Uganda Muslim supreme council (UMSC) working committees, held in the National Mosque Conference Hall at UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala.

Sheikh Khatwib told the committee members that UMSC has high hopes in them urging them to come up with strategies that will enhance and concretize Muslim unity, development and strength.

‘I urge you to work as a team and strengthen the UMSC system where it’s weak.’ he said.

The UMSC Chairman Dr. Abdulkadir Balonde witnessed swearing in of the committee members and in his remarks he said that after a long period of inefficiencies in the UMSC system, the committees were needed to ensure efficiency in running the affairs of council.

He noted that the committees will be working closely with the UMSC management committee which is chaired by His Eminence the Mufti. The 8 committees include, the Education and Social Services committee, the Information and Communications Technology Committee, the Appointment and Disciplinary committee, the Religious Affairs committee, the Endowment committee, the Health and Population committee, the Legal Affairs Committee and the Finance, Planning and Administration Committee.

During the ceremony, Muslim representatives selected to serve on the 8 committees were sworn in by the UMSC Electoral Commission Chairman Kayongo Ahmed Nyago.

The UMSC Secretary General Sheikh Siraje Zaidi Kavuma was also present together with several UMSC members of staff.
