China is set to help Uganda in constructing hydro-power generating facilities on the numerous rivers in the country.

President Yoweri Museveni has met and held discussions with Chinese investors from the China Gezhouba Group Corporation based in Beijing-China, led by the Board Member Mr. Yang Yisheng who called on him at his country home in Rwakitura –Kiruhura district.

The President said, ‘Government is committed to developing adequate and affordable energy for industrial and domestic use, in order to boost the economic development.’

The Chinese investors are interested in participating in the development of hydro power generation in Uganda.  Gezhouba Construction Group Corporation is involved in contracting construction of various kinds of  projects including Special-grade qualification for contracting construction of water resources and hydropower project on turnkey basis.

It has set up scientific research & work station for post-doctors as well as the first national technical center of hydroelectric construction industry in China, and developed more than 700 important scientific & technological achievements in China.

China Gezhouba Group of Company has been involved in over 100 hydro-power projects in China with the capacity output of 89,000 KWTS. The biggest project being Gorges in one of the rivers in China.

Uganda is the source of the longest river in the world, The Nile, and has so far constructed two electricity dams on it but has plans to construct one big one at Karuma falls about 300 kms north of Kampala. China has reportedly promised to sponsor its construction.
