Over 1000 Muslim women in Uganda have participated in a Koran recitation competition.

The competition has been organized by Rural women development associations. They came from Katuso, Hudaiya Kiruddu, Mawanga and Munyonyo villages located in the outskirts of Kamapala.
.

According to the organizers, the main objective of the competition is to teach the believers how to read the holy book.

Hajat Zaitun Nsubuga, the chairperson of the organization said, ‘We came up with the idea of  Koran recitation competition because most Muslim women in Africa do not get opportunity of studying the Koran when they are young.’

She said that a true Muslim is obliged to thoroughly understand the Koran. She said that such competitions make women become well versed with the holy book.
‘We want the women to know their religion and improve on the recitation of the Koran since it is always men who get the chance to study the Koran when they are young.’ she said.
