Allegations by a Catholic priest that some of his colleagues and some bishops have wives and children has  raised dust in the country.

Catholic church leaders and followers have responded differently to the letter written by Father Anthony Musala to the Arch Bishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, and published in several newspapers claiming that most priests in the country had wives and children. In the letter he suggested that Catholic priests should be allowed to marry.

He also said that some priest involve underage children in homosexuality.

The archbishop has written a later rubbishing father Nusala’s claims  and the method he used to air out his views which he concluded by saying that Musala had been suspended.

Some believers have criticized him for shaming the church while a few have supported him saying he has said the truth and therefore those involved should be punished.

Father Anthony Musala on March 12th 2013 wrote a letter to the Arch Bishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga entitled ‘An open letter to Bishops, priests and laity: The failure of celibate chastity among diocesan priests.

In the letter he said, ‘It is an open secret that many Catholic priests and some Bishops in Uganda and elsewhere no longer live celibate chastity. A fair number of priests’ and Bishops’ children are scattered around the nation, who are carefully hidden from view, not to mention children who are aborted at priests’ behest.’

He said  further in the letter  that he is compiling the list of those sexually abused by priests. He said that when he was 16 yrs old he was sexually molested by a Catholic Brother at school.

Archbishop, Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has condemned Father Musala for coming out in the open to criticize the church and also to suggest that priest should be allowed to marry.

Archbishop Lwanga said in the letter he also got by newspapers,’ Investigations about the allegations are to begin immediately. I feel sorry for the inconveniences caused by Father Musala’s article. Father Anthony Musala is suspended from celebrating sacraments and sacramentals.’

On celibacy he said, ‘It should however be clear that the value of the choice of priestly celibacy according to Catholic tradition still stands and the need for solid human and Christian formation is underlined, both for seminarians and those already ordained.’

Silvester Mbogo a Catholic preacher said, ‘What Father Kamusala has done is abominable. I suggest that he is sacked.’

Chris Mbali, a Catholic bus driver said, I wonder why father Musala is complaining yet he still wants to remain a priest. Why doesn’t he resign and leave us alone?’ he asked.

Today a local daily called ‘The Red Pepper’ published 10 names of Catholic priests and 2 of Bishops said to be with wives and children.
