The number of number of Egyptians studying Italian language has reportedly tremendously increased in the last two years.

One of the reasons why the number has gone high is due to learning Italian being a prerequisite of joining some Italian universities and
many Egyptian students aspire to join them.

According to an official of Egypt’s education agency, Kassim Fahad, enrollments of university students learning the language Italian has risen five times in the last two years.

He said, ‘The figure rose from about 500 in academic year 2011/2012 to almost 2000 in 2012/2013.’

He said that currently about 10,000 Egyptian students enrolled in courses featuring Italian as a first or second language.

Meanwhile the number of students studying Italian in secondary schools in Egypt has also increased from under 20,000 two years ago to currently over 90,000.
