Suspected Boko Haram Islamists last night set ablaze a house in which a middle-aged man was burnt to ash.

The incident that has shocked people in Nigeria took place in Borno State capital, Maiduguri.

Police said that the victim was set ablaze at his home located around Polo area of the city. It reportedly happened at around 2 am.

An eye witness, Paul Buchi said ‘ They were about 6 men. They came at around 2 am. Dogs barked loudly when they arrived and everybody around the area woke up. They forced their ways into the house and put all those in the house under gun point.’

Buchi said that when the man heard that his home had been attacked he hid in the ceiling. The attackers asked for his whereabouts but when they said they did not know where he was, they were taken out of the house. The house was set ablaze and the man was burnt to death.

Area police spokesman, Lt Col Sagir Musa confirmed the incident. He said that they were hunting for those who set fire on the house.

Police has fears that the terrorists have now resorted to burning people in their houses at night. On Monday, two houses, three schools, and 14 vehicles were set ablaze by suspected Boko Haram arsonists. The attacks also took place at 2.am.
