Libyan government has confirmed that the former Libyan leader, Mummar
Gaddafi’s spokesman, Moussa Ibrahim has been arrested.
Moussa was a very strong man in Gaddafi’s regime. He is accused of leading to the death of some civilians.
He was reportedly arrested as he attempted to flee from Bani Walid town. The town has been invaded by government troops with the aim of getting rid of the Gaddafi’s late supporters.
Recently, Gaddafi’s supporters in Bani Walid captured the youth claimed to have captured and killed Gaddafi. He was shot and later died in hospital.
Ibrahim is being detained in Tripoli. He will soon appear in court to be charged with several cases.
The prime minister’s media department has issued a statement confirming that Moussa Ibrahim has been arrested.
The statement said, ‘Forces belonging to Libyan transitional government have arrested Moussa Ibrahim. He was arrested at a checkpoint in the town of Tarhuna.’
Tarhuna is between Tripoli and Bani Walid from where he was escaping. Immediately after the arrest he was transferred to Tripoli.
Government troops have since last week besieged Bani Walid with an aim of capturing a number of criminal pro-Gaddafi elements. Unconfirmed reports indicate that Gaddafi’s son, Khamis Gaddafi has been killed in Bani Walid.
The government believes that the killing of Khamis Gaddafi and arresting of Moussa are among the acts that will bring peace in the country which has been unstable ever since Gaddafi was overthrown last year.
