Democratic republic of Congo fugitive member of parliament, wanted for treason charges, Roger Lumbala has left Burundi where he was seeking refugee and went to France.

He is reportedly wanted for supporting rebels in eastern Congo that has led to hundreds of people killed and thousands fleeing to
neighboring countries .

He escaped from Congo, early this month seeking asylum at the South African Embassy in Burundi’s capital Bujumbura.

Burundi government official, Pierre Owimana said,’ Lumbala has been here for some time. He has been living in the South African Embassy. I have been made to understand that he left for France.’

Reports from Burundi indicate that Lumbala was escorted to Bujumbura international airport by officials from the South African Embassy and the U.N. Refugee Agency.

Democratic Republic of Congo government officials are not happy that Lumbala left Burundi yet they had requested that he be handed to them so that he faces charges.

Congo’s government spokesman, Lambert Mende said that they are going to ask France to extradite him to Congo.

Burundi said that the government of democratic republic of Congo had indeed mentioned interest in being given Lumbala, but had not
formulated an official demand for his extradition and that was the reason they let him go.
