Police in Kenya’s capital Nairobi has recovered a cache of weapons suspected to have been amassed for a terrorist attack on churches.

The police, according to its intelligence department, highly suspects that the recovered weapons were meant to carry out attacks on some Churches on Sunday Similar attacks have occurred in churches in that country.

Kenya is nowadays one of the key targets of the Somali Al Shabab terrorists after her troops entered Somalia a few months ago and started hunting for them. This followed several attacks by terrorists on mostly white tourists visiting Kenya.

Nairobi deputy police boss Moses Ombati said,’ We have arrested two suspects during an operation we carried out last night in the suburb of Eastleigh. We recovered twelve grenades, six bombs, four AK-47 rifles and hundreds of bullets.’

He said that each of the AK-47 had four magazines. Also recovered were 480 rounds of ammunition, six bullet proof jackets and 30 kilograms of explosive material.

He said that police had thwarted a major attack planned on churches within Nairobi this Sunday. He said that the two arrested suspects of Somali origin were helping police with investigations.
