Saudi Arabia condemns deadly New Year’s Eve attack in New Orleans
Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned a deadly attack in New Orleans, Louisiana, where a 42-year-old Texas man drove a pickup truck into a crowd celebrating New Year’s Eve in the French Quarter.
The suspect then opened fire, killing at least 10 people and injuring 35, in what the FBI is investigating as a potential act of terrorism.
The attacker was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police, and authorities discovered potential homemade bombs in the truck and around the French Quarter.
A Daesh flag was also found in the vehicle, the FBI reported.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s “complete rejection and denunciation of all forms of violence.”
The statement also conveyed Saudi Arabia‘s solidarity with the victims, offering condolences to their families, the American people, and the US government, along with wishes for the swift recovery of the injured.
The attack has sparked widespread condemnation and prompted heightened security measures in the French Quarter, as investigators continue to unravel the motive and potential connections of the suspect.
