The annual meeting of Saudi regional emirs took center stage this week, focusing on national security and sustainable development.

As leaders deliberated on the country’s future, millions of expatriates in the Kingdom embraced the spirit of Ramadan, experiencing the holy month in the heartland of Islam.

For many Muslim expatriates, spending Ramadan in Saudi Arabia is a deeply enriching experience. Nafisa Usmani, an Indian homemaker who has lived in Riyadh for over 20 years, described it as a time of unparalleled spiritual fulfillment. “The atmosphere here is incomparable. The streets come alive at night, and there’s a unique sense of unity among the people,” she said.

Saudi Arabia’s Ramadan traditions reflect a powerful blend of faith, culture, and community. Families and friends gather for nightly prayers, communal iftars, and acts of charity. Many expatriates also take advantage of their proximity to Makkah and Madinah to perform Umrah and Ziyarah.

Ambreen Faiz, a Pakistani writer residing in Yanbu for 27 years, shared her excitement about Ramadan in the Kingdom.

“We women friends organize iftar parties, preparing traditional Pakistani dishes like samosas, dahi barey, and fruit chaat. It’s a time of joy, devotion, and bonding,” she said.

Sri Lankan expatriate Ifthikar Ansari echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the fusion of cultural traditions. “Our iftar tables here blend Sri Lankan and Saudi flavors—rice and coconut porridge, spicy chutneys, and tropical juices alongside dates and Arabic delicacies,” he explained.

Beyond personal experiences, Ramadan in Saudi Arabia serves as a model of inclusivity, uniting diverse communities in a shared spiritual journey.

With the Kingdom’s leadership prioritizing security and sustainable development, the annual gathering of regional emirs ensures that Saudi Arabia remains a beacon of stability and progress for both its citizens and the millions of expatriates who call it home.
