Fighting continues in Gaza until ‘total victory’, Netanyahu tells UN General Assembly
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the war on Gaza until achieving “total victory,” stating unequivocally that “Hamas has got to go.”
He told world leaders at the ongoing UN General Assembly that Hamas’s presence would only lead to repeated attacks on Israel, saying, “If Hamas stays in power, it will regroup … and attack Israel again and again and again… So Hamas has got to go.”
Netanyahu also addressed the conflict along the Lebanon border, pledging to “continue degrading Hezbollah” until Israel’s objectives are met. This stance has further diminished hopes for an internationally backed ceasefire, potentially escalating the situation into a full-blown regional war.
“Israel has every right to remove this threat and return our citizens to their home safely. And that’s exactly what we’re doing … we’ll continue degrading Hezbollah until all our objectives are met,” Netanyahu said.
“Just imagine if terrorists turned El Paso and San Diego into ghost towns … How long would the American government tolerate that?” he said, shaking his fist in emphasis. “Yet Israel has been tolerating this intolerable situation for almost a year. Well, I’ve come here today to say: Enough is enough.”
The ongoing conflict began on October 7, 2023, with Hamas’s “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” resulting in significant casualties and destruction. With tensions running high, the international community remains concerned about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza and the potential for broader regional instability.
