The 39th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice commenced on Monday in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, as Arab ministers and officials gathered to discuss regional cooperation. The event was marked by Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, extending a warm welcome to the visiting dignitaries.

In a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s commitment to strengthening relations with Arab nations, fostering cooperation in various sectors, and advancing the overall prosperity and development of the Arab world.

The session was attended by high-profile figures, including Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, as reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA). During the proceedings, Iraq’s Minister of Justice, Khaled Shawani, underlined the nation’s regained regional influence after successfully countering terrorism.

The session took an urgent turn as Aboul Gheit drew attention to the dire situation in Gaza, where more than 2.2 million Palestinians are facing a crisis that he described as a potential genocide. He strongly condemned the displacement of Gaza’s population and the collective punishment being meted out, deeming these actions contrary to international law.

Aboul Gheit made a fervent plea for immediate action to halt the Israeli military operation against civilians and facilitate the swift delivery of essential humanitarian aid to the affected population in Gaza. The Council of Arab Ministers of Justice now faces a pressing call to address this critical issue on the international stage.
