UAE reopens airport for limited flights
UAE has announced that airports across the countries would be allowed to operate limited flights that would only include transit, repatriation of expats or return of residents or citizens.
This was disclosed on Wednesday June 3, 2020, by the Spokesperson for National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management, Dr. Saif al-Dhaheri, during a coronavirus press briefing.
Al-Dhaheri stated that Emirates, Etihad, Fly Dubai and Air Arabia are the airlines that would operate the flights.
“The decision to suspend passenger flights to and from the country is still in effect,” said al-Dhaheri.
He said that the flights would be temporarily allowed for “evacuating residents and visitors who wish to leave the UAE and return to their country.”
It was said that flights scheduled would be announced later on Thursday 4th June.
The Emirates’ chairman and CEO, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said in a tweet on Wednesday, “We welcome the UAE authorities’ decision to re-open UAE airports for all connecting travellers. @Emirates and flydubai will shortly announce the resumption of passenger flights to more cities with connections to, and through, Dubai. @DXB.”
As of Thursday, UAE has recorded 571 new coronavirus cases bringing the total to 36,359, 19,153 recoveries, and one death, bringing the death toll to 270.
