Covid-19: UAE extends closure of mosques until further notice
United Arab Emitrate UAE has extended the suspension of congregational prayers and all forms of worship until further notice.
According to the statement released by UAE authorities, the suspenstion, which include prayers at mosques and all other places of worship across the country, was part of the precautionary measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
The move for the extension was a collective decision made by several authorities in the country: National Crisis Emergency and Disasters Management Authority, the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, and federal and local health and religious authorities.
“The move is in line with the precautionary measures being taken to improve the health status and safety of the public and prevent the spread of COVID-19,” a statement said.
Covid-19 remains a major health challenge confronting the UAE as the country currently has 2,659 confirmed cases with 12 recorded deaths.
There has been 239 recoveries from the virus across the country so far.
