Egypt and Somalia meet to improve on farming and livestock development
African countries are recently working on improving their agricultural sector. One of the recorded moves towards this development is the meeting of Federal Republic of Somalia and the Arab Republic of Egypt to sign agreement to cooperate in farming and live stock development.
However, it was reported that the Egyptian Agriculture Minister Abdulmoneim Al Banna confirmed the cooperation during a meeting with his Somali counterpart in the capital Cairo. In addition, Mr. Al Banna explained that as part of improving this sector, agricultural experts will be sent to Mogadishu in order to assess over 200 hectors of farm land to implement the first phase of the project which will take place really soon.
Similarly, the Egyptian agriculture minister added that the experts will be on the ground immediately after the federal government of Somalia gives the green light for the ambitious scheme. He confirmed that his government is fully ready to cooperate with Somalia in farming and live stock development. This sector serve as a source of living to many which makes it a first target for investment.
Further more, as part of the cooperative strategies, Egyptian government through ministry of agriculture has also promised to increase the number of agricultural experts and livestock vets in Somalia by providing training opportunities at Egyptian agricultural research institutions in the country. These opportunities are anxiously awaited by the farmers in Somalia. This will no doubt help to expertise and standardize the country’s farming sector.
In response, Somali agricultural minister Said Hussein Eid welcomed the move. He added that the federal government will speed up the formation of joint technical committee to follow up the cooperation. Also, he said the cooperation will benefit the farmers in the country in standardisation of their farming systems and at thesame time, help to generate more income.
Reports also confirmed that many cooperative agreements were signed to further strengthen and develop the country’s economy standard. However, the farming and livestock agreement is among several other cooperation pact signed between Mogadishu and Cairo during recent visit of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo in Egypt.
The signing of cooperative agreement between Somalia and Egypt is really a great deal. Many farmers in the country will be encourage to take their means of livelihood to another level. The government of Egypt has promised to invest greatly in the livestock vetting and standardisation of the farming sector. This has greatly brought smiles to Somali farmers with the hope that positive changes will surface soon.
