Exclusive Unilorin 39th convocation: Hijabites shine, bag first class, receive accolades from netizens

The University of Ilorin’s 39th convocation ceremony honored 12,042 graduates, including 256 First Class and 323 PhDs.

Among the graduates, hijab-wearing Muslim girls who achieved First Class drew praise and admiration from netizens for their dedication to modesty.

The graduates’ refusal to shake hands with the Vice Chancellor, due to Islamic principles, also garnered attention and respect. Netizens took to social media to congratulate the graduates, praising their steadfastness and commitment to their faith.

A lecturer at the Al-Hikmah University, Dr. Sanusi Lafiagi praised the graduating Muslim ladies, saying: “Some of the First Class Muslimah graduands of the University of Ilorin didn’t disappoint with handshake with the Chancellor. Bārakallāhu fīkunna” (May Allah bless you).

Alfa Sheu wrote, “May Allah bless these first-class sisters for their steadfastness, and increase them in goodness. Aameen. Congratulations to you all, and Barakallahu feekunna. We are proud of you! May Allah grant you and all graduands success in your future endeavors. Aameen.”

The University of Ilorin graduated a total of 12,042 students, comprising 256 First Class, 3,842 Second Class Upper Division, 6,178 Second Class Lower Division, 1,299 Third Class, and 62 Pass. In the postgraduate category, the university awarded 92 postgraduate diplomas, 1,280 masters, 179 professional masters, one MPhil, and 323 PhDs.

The university’s inclusive environment was commended for allowing Muslim students to thrive while adhering to their beliefs.
