Saudi Arabia marks its annual Founding Day today, February 22, commemorating the establishment of the first Saudi state by Imam Mohammed bin Saud in 1727.
The historic occasion reflects the kingdom’s long journey from Diriyah to becoming a global power, built on principles of unity, stability, and prosperity.
The celebration honors the struggles and sacrifices that laid the foundations of a strong state, deeply rooted in the values of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Citizens of Saudi Arabia take immense pride in their rich heritage, forged under the leadership of Imam Mohammed bin Saud, and later strengthened by Imam Turki bin Abdullah and King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman, the unifier of modern Saudi Arabia. This legacy continues under the reign of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Established as a public holiday by royal decree in January 2022, Founding Day stands distinct from National Day, which commemorates the naming of the Kingdom nearly nine decades ago.
The day serves as a reminder of the Saudi state’s resilience against external threats and internal challenges since 1727.
Celebrations across the kingdom include cultural and artistic events that highlight the nation’s deep history.
Riyadh alone will host 47 diverse events, featuring heritage shows, workshops, exhibitions, and artistic performances. These festivities align with Saudi Vision 2030, reinforcing national identity and fostering a strong connection between generations and their shared history.
