Houthis release 153 war detainees amid continued tensions
Yemen’s Houthi rebels unilaterally freed 153 war detainees on Saturday, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The move, announced Friday night, is part of efforts to reduce tensions following the Gaza ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The ICRC welcomed the release as “another positive step toward reviving negotiations” to end Yemen’s prolonged war.
Despite this gesture, tensions remain heightened after the Houthis recently detained seven Yemeni UN workers, drawing sharp criticism from the United Nations.
