Saudi authorities seize over 300,000 captagon pills in smuggling busts
The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) says it has successfully intercepted five separate attempts to smuggle Captagon pills into Saudi Arabia via the Al-Haditha border crossing, seizing a total of 313,906 pills.
The operations used advanced customs procedures, security technologies, and canine units to detect the hidden contraband, according to a statement by the Saudi news agency, SPA.
The pills were concealed in various compartments of vehicles and trucks, including 86,000 pills found under a smuggler’s clothing, 65,116 pills inside a truck’s cabin refrigerator, 52,907 pills in a vehicle’s floor, 55,232 pills within a fuel tank, and 4,651 pills stashed in a spare tyre compartment.
ZATCA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding society and the economy by enhancing border security and combating the smuggling of illicit substances like Captagon.
The authority emphasized its ongoing efforts to prevent such activities as part of its strategic objectives.
Citizens and residents are encouraged to report any suspected smuggling activity through ZATCA’s designated channels, including a security hotline (1910), email (1910@zatca.gov.sa), and an international contact number (+966114208417).
Reports are treated with strict confidentiality, and informants providing credible information may be eligible for financial rewards, ZATCA assured.
