OIC denounces US veto on UN resolution to halt Israeli aggression in Gaza
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned the United States’ veto against a UN Security Council draft resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
This move is seen as a challenge to the international community’s will and an attempt to shield Israel from accountability for its actions in Gaza.
The OIC expressed deep regret over the veto, emphasizing its concern over the UN Security Council’s inability to carry out its responsibilities and maintain international peace and security.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with over 44,000 reported deaths and more than 105,000 injured, mostly women and children.
The statement reads, “The OIC expressed its regret for this position, which constitutes a challenge to the will of the international community and an attempt to protect the Israeli occupation and encourage it to continue its war crimes against the Palestinian people.
“The OIC indicated that the repeated use of the veto in cases of genocide confirms the urgent need to reform the UN Security Council, which has become unable to carry out its responsibilities and has lost its credibility in maintaining international peace and security.
“The OIC also renewed its call for issuing a resolution under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter for an immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire, stressing the need to continue efforts and take measures that would contribute to stopping the crimes of aggression, destruction, starvation and forced displacement committed by the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip. which resulted in more than 44,000 martyrs and more than 105.000 others injured, the majority of whom are women and children.”
