The Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has revealed that US envoy Amos Hochstein hinted at a possible ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war before the US elections on November 5.

Mikati disclosed this during a televised interview with Lebanese broadcaster Al-Jadeed after the duo had a telephone conversation.

According to Mikati, Hochstein suggested a ceasefire could be reached within days. This development comes as Hochstein prepares to visit Israel to discuss ceasefire conditions with Hezbollah.

“The call today with Hochstein suggested to me that perhaps we could reach a ceasefire in the coming days, before the fifth” of November, Najib Mikati said in the televised interview.

Mikati remains “cautiously optimistic” about reaching a ceasefire within hours or days as Hezbollah dropped its previous condition of linking a Lebanon ceasefire to a truce in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s new leader, Naim Qassem, expressed willingness to accept a ceasefire under acceptable terms. However, he noted that no viable proposal has been presented yet.
