Dubai Police has introduced stricter traffic regulations, effective immediately.

Vehicles can now be impounded for up to 30 days for multiple traffic offenses, including using mobile phones while driving, tailgating, and sudden deviation.

The offenses already carry fines of between Dh400 and Dh1,000 and four black points under federal traffic law, but the 30-day impoundment adds an extra layer of penalty.

Using mobile phones while driving is defined as being distracted by devices while driving.

Other offenses leading to 30-day impoundment include tailgating, where drivers fail to leave enough safe distance from the vehicle in front, and sudden deviation, where vehicles deviate suddenly in a manner posing danger to lives and property or traffic safety.

Heavy vehicles that fail to adhere to lane discipline will also face 30-day impoundment.

Additionally, 14-day impoundment will be imposed for offenses such as entering the road without clearance, reckless reversing, lane indiscipline, stopping in the middle of the road, and dangerous overtaking.

The stricter regulations aim to enhance road safety and reduce traffic accidents in Dubai.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution and adhere to traffic laws to avoid fines, black points, and vehicle impoundment.
