UAE opens investigation after citizen violates travel ban to Lebanon
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have ordered an immediate investigation into a UAE national who broke the country’s travel ban to Lebanon.
Reports say the citizen traveled to Lebanon with his family via another country, dodging UAE’s travel restrictions.
Report by the state news agency WAM, says he’ll face investigation for putting his family’s safety at risk amid Lebanon’s escalating violence.
This move comes as no surprise, given the UAE’s history of taking strong action against individuals who violate national security or public order laws.
“The Attorney-General emphasized the importance of adhering to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ travel advisories, which are designed to protect UAE citizens from potential dangers in certain regions,” read the statement.
Violators will be subject to fines and/or imprisonment according to the UAE Penal Code, warned attorney-general Hamad Said Al-Shamsi.
The UAE national’s actions are seen as reckless and potentially harmful to his family, given the volatile situation in Lebanon.
The investigation will likely focus on the individual’s motivations and actions, as well as any potential consequences for his family’s safety.
The conflict in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah has taken the lives of 2,229 and 10,380 wounded, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
