US condemns Iran’s missile attack on Israel as “defeated and ineffective”
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stated that Iran’s missile attack on Israel “appears to have been defeated and ineffective.”
During a White House press briefing, Sullivan warned, “There will be severe consequences for this attack and we will work with Israel to make that the case.”
Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel, but US naval destroyers and Israeli air defense units successfully intercepted the inbound missiles. US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris monitored the situation from the White House Situation Room.
Sullivan praised the Israeli Defense Forces’ professionalism and the US military’s skilled work, saying, “This is a significant escalation by Iran, and it is equally significant that we were able to step up with Israel and create a situation in which no one was killed in this attack in Israel.”
The US is assessing the damage, with only one reported casualty – a Palestinian man killed in Jericho. Sullivan expressed condolences to the victims of the terror attack in Jaffa and the Iranian missile attack in Jericho.
“We are proud of the actions that we’ve taken alongside Israel to protect and defend Israel,” Sullivan said, emphasizing the importance of securing American interests and promoting regional stability.
