Doctors Without Borders expands Lebanon operations amid rampaging Israeli attacks
Doctors Without Borders, also known as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), is ramping up its efforts to address the growing humanitarian needs in Lebanon amid violent air raids by Israeli forces.
The organization is focused on delivering primary healthcare and essential relief items to the displaced population, amid escalating tensions between Hezbollah and Israel.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the conflict has resulted in 558 deaths and 1,835 injuries from Israeli air raids, with thousands more forced to flee their homes. To respond to this crisis, MSF teams are distributing vital non-food items, such as mattresses and hygiene kits, to collective shelters across the country.
MSF’s mobile medical units are also providing primary and mental healthcare to those in need, with a focus on supporting displaced individuals and families. As the organization noted, “In addition, we are running mental health helplines, offering psychological support to displaced and affected individuals during this time of distress.”
The situation remains dire, with MSF staff in south Lebanon, Beirut, and other areas forced to leave their homes due to the ongoing conflict. “Many of our staff there were still sheltering in their homes, while Israeli warplanes continued to fly overhead and throughout the night,” the organization reported.
MSF’s response in Lebanon is part of its broader efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in the region, which includes providing medical care and humanitarian aid to those affected by the conflict in Gaza.
