Iraq has called for the establishment of a dedicated fund to aid in the reconstruction of the war-torn Gaza Strip.

Speaking at the United Nations, Iraq’s Permanent Representative, Abdul-Karim Mustafa, renewed the country’s plea for global support in rebuilding Gaza and assisting the Palestinian people as they face escalating humanitarian challenges.

Mustafa’s remarks came during the 71st Executive Session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), where he expressed grave concern over the dire consequences of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “The devastation is immense,” Mustafa stated, emphasizing Iraq’s unwavering stance. He condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing them as “crimes against humanity.”

The Iraqi diplomat also pointed to the staggering economic fallout in Palestinian territories, citing a sharp decline in GDP, soaring unemployment rates, and the relentless expansion of Israeli settlements. These factors, Mustafa argued, have intensified the hardships faced by Palestinians and displaced many from their lands.

Iraq’s commitment to the Palestinian cause remains resolute, as Mustafa reiterated the nation’s support for the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. By calling for an international reconstruction fund, Iraq hopes to not only restore Gaza’s infrastructure but also provide a foundation for long-term stability in the region.
