Erdogan reaffirms commitment to Palestine ahead of UN General Assembly
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated his commitment to advocating for justice for Palestine as he prepared to attend the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Erdogan emphasized the importance of addressing the long-standing Palestinian struggle during his international engagements.
“Turkiye stands firmly with the Palestinian people in their pursuit of freedom, dignity, and justice,” Erdogan stated. “The international community must prioritize resolving this issue and ensuring a fair and lasting peace in the region.”
Erdogan, a consistent advocate for the Palestinian cause, has repeatedly condemned Israeli actions and called on global leaders to take stronger measures to protect Palestinian rights.
His upcoming speech at the UNGA is expected to focus on Palestine, along with other global issues such as climate change, food security, and regional conflicts.
Amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, Erdogan’s visit to the UNGA underscores Turkiye’s continued diplomatic efforts in the region.
The Turkish president frequently calls for a two-state solution based on 1967 borders and demands an end to Israeli settlement expansion and military actions in the Occupied Territories.
Observers anticipate that Erdogan will rally support for Palestinian self-determination and push for stronger international action to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank.
