As global crises intensify, Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Hakan Fidan, has called for a reinvigorated role for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), urging the Muslim world to embrace unity and assert its collective voice on the global stage.

In a compelling article titled “The OIC in a Transforming World: Türkiye’s Vision for a More Active and Unified Islamic Cooperation”, published in the OIC Journal to mark the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, Mr. Fidan warned of deepening geopolitical fractures, rising inequalities, and a “growing disconnect between global governance institutions and political realities.”

“Multilateralism—the bedrock of international cooperation—is under immense strain,” he wrote, citing armed conflicts, climate change, irregular migration, economic rivalry, and disruptive technologies as catalysts of systemic instability. “Rising intolerance, identity-based polarization, and the erosion of international law have diminished the trust on the legitimacy of existing frameworks,” he added.

Highlighting unresolved crises in Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, and Afghanistan, the minister stressed that the Muslim world faces “the limits of international diplomacy” and is “increasingly exposed” to Islamophobia, hate speech, and discrimination, especially in non-OIC countries.

“Against this backdrop, Türkiye believes that revitalizing multilateral cooperation is imperative,” Mr. Fidan emphasized. “In the face of uncertainty, the Muslim world must strengthen its own mechanisms of solidarity.”

Calling the OIC the “principal collective voice of the Muslim world,” Mr. Fidan underscored the organization’s critical role in protecting the rights and dignity of Muslim communities. “In this period where even the UN and other international organisations cannot respond to the current challenges, the benefits that OIC can provide are larger and more significant,” he asserted.
