Kuwait has urged South American and Caribbean nations to continue backing international efforts for Palestine’s full United Nations membership.

The call came from Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi, following his participation in a representative-level meeting with ambassadors from these regions in Egypt.

Al-Mutairi stressed that Palestine’s right to full UN membership would contribute to stability in the Arab region, which has faced decades of unrest due to Israeli occupation policies. Despite various Arab peace initiatives, Israel has continued to disregard efforts to achieve lasting peace, he said.

He also expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for the continued support from South American and Caribbean countries for the humanitarian rights of Palestinians, who have endured years of violence and displacement. Al-Mutairi stressed concerns over Israel’s failure to respect international and humanitarian laws.

The meeting, initiated by Libya, concluded with a joint statement reaffirming the need to support the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including self-determination, the right of return, and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
