Baghdad to host OIC Foreign Ministers Council’s meeting in 2026
Iraq’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mohammad Samir Al Naqshbandi, submitted Iraq’s request to host the 52nd Ministerial Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC’s Member States for 2026.
The step took place during the 50th session held in the capital of Cameroon, Yaounde, and following directives issued by the Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, according to a statement released by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Monday.
The step, which was included in the Council’s 50th session report, was warmly received by the Council of Foreign Ministers.
The last time Iraq hosted this meeting was in 1981, according to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
According to the OIC’s rotating system of regional groupings, Iraq will host the 52nd session of the Arab group.
The step represents a significant opportunity for Iraq to reaffirm its standing in the Islamic world and encourage cooperative Islamic action.
