The Iraqi Ministry of Environment has unveiled measures to address the country’s air pollution problem, concentrating on Baghdad and Basra as they have been determined to be the most impacted cities.

Amir Ali Al-Hassoun, the Director General of the Ministry’s Environmental Awareness and Media Department, noted that Basra and Baghdad are the two cities with the greatest pollution in Iraq, with Basra being severely affected by petroleum-related activities in addition to manufacturing activities and transportation.

In order to mitigate the adverse effects of pollution on the environment, the Ministry suggested expanding green areas and creating green corridors inside and surrounding Baghdad and Basra.

Iraq’s Ministry of Environment also emphasized the necessity of enforcing restrictions on dangerous pollutants from plants, factories, and automobiles as well as the need to regulate urban development in a way that safeguards the deteriorating infrastructure in need of thorough renovation.
