Toyota leads Iraqi market sales in 2024’s first half
A global automotive intelligence and consulting firm, Focus2Move, revealed in a recent report that Toyota led the Iraqi market sales in the first half of 2024.
The report mentioned that car sales in Iraq increased by 26.4 percent in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
With 69,072 sold in the first six months of 2024, June was the eighteenth consecutive month that car sales witnessed an increase, with 11,022 new cars registered in the month of June alone.
When comparing brand-wise cumulative data until June 2024, Toyota led the market with 19,629 sales, closely followed by Kia with 17,986 new sales.
Hyundai, with 7,980 sales, was the third-best seller in the Iraqi market. MG came in fourth with 5,619 sales.
The Iraqi automotive market experienced a downturn between 2014 and 2016, following a period of consistent growth, as a result of the impact of the war against ISIS terrorists on the Iraqi economy.
With around 40,000 new registered vehicles, car sales significantly increased in 2016, but long-term growth has been in place since 2017.
In 2022, car sales increased by 26.7 percent to 107,990, the greatest annual volume in the previous eight years.
