“Family empowerment a backbone to peaceful, prosperous society” — OIC
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has stressed the importance of family empowerment to peaceful and prosperous society.
Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakhit, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs of OIC stressed this on Wednesday August 21, 2024, at the Bolgar Islamic Academy during the third Kazan International Youth Summit.
Tarig delivered a compelling speech on behalf of H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary General of the OIC.
He emphasized the foundational role of the family in accordance with Islamic principles and ideal human values.
“The path to any prosperous and peaceful society passes through the empowerment of the family institution,” he stated, underscoring the pivotal role families play in societal development.
Reviewing key elements from the OIC Charter, Tarig highlighted the necessity to “protect the family and strengthen its role as a natural and basic unit of society.” He also referenced the OIC Cairo Declaration on Human Rights and the OIC Strategy for Family Empowerment, which collectively advocate for the reinforcement of family values.
Addressing contemporary challenges, he noted, “It is crucial to face the challenges opposing Islamic and human principles and values, particularly the new trends aimed at redefining the institution of marriage and family in various international forums.” He stressed the need for united efforts to bolster the institution of marriage and family against these modern threats.
He also called for the active involvement of media, educational institutions, religious leaders, and stakeholders in the mission to protect and strengthen the family unit. He highlighted the collective efforts of the OIC and its various institutions in this endeavor.
“The media, educational and educational institutions, religious leaders, religious actors, and stakeholders play a vital role in efforts to protect and strengthen the institution of marriage and the family,” he concluded, urging a concerted effort to uphold these essential societal pillars.
