President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has officially endorsed the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at fostering collaboration between Azerbaijan and Iraq in the realms of political consultation and tourism.

The MoU between the Azerbaijani State Tourism Agency and the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities was given the presidential nod through an order, solidifying the commitment made during the signing ceremony in Baku on November 20, 2023.

As reported by Azernews, the Azerbaijani State Tourism Agency is now tasked with overseeing the effective implementation of the agreed-upon terms, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is directed to communicate the completion of internal processes necessary for the MoU to become operational to the Iraqi government.

In a parallel decree, President Aliyev also sanctioned the MoU on political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Iraq. These diplomatic initiatives mark a significant stride in the relations between the two nations.

The groundwork for these agreements was laid during the recent visit of Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid to Baku, where multiple MoUs and agreements were inked across diverse sectors, including politics, economics, trade, and tourism.

Last month, the Azerbaijani Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Rashad Nabiyev, and the President of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA), Imad Al-Asadi, solidified their commitment to enhanced collaboration by signing an air services agreement between the two governments.

These developments underscore the mutual commitment of Azerbaijan and Iraq to deepen their cooperation for the benefit of both nations, fostering ties across various facets of governance and commerce.”
