An official from Iraq has disclosed plans for the establishment of extensive residential complexes, aiming to provide a staggering one million housing units. The initiative draws inspiration from the successful Bismayah New City Project (BNCP).

Haider Majeed, the spokesperson for the secretariat of the Iraqi council of ministers, informed the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the National Investment Commission (NIC) has formulated detailed plans for these residential complexes. The NIC envisions the creation of residential communities across multiple governorates, mirroring the model of the Bismayah New City Project, with the overarching goal of delivering one million units tailored for middle-class citizens.

The BNCP, located 10 kilometers southeast of Baghdad, was designed to be a new city encompassing 108,000 housing units within an expansive 18.3 square kilometers. Initiated in 2012, the project, with an estimated cost of $12.12 billion, was entrusted to South Korea’s Hanwha Engineering & Construction Corporation.

As of now, the project’s implementation has achieved a 40 percent completion rate. Over 100,000 people currently reside in the 30,000 completed housing units, marking a significant milestone in the realization of this ambitious undertaking.
