Saudi Arabia has decried the heartless assault carried out by Israeli occupation forces on the Jabalia refugee camp within the besieged Gaza Strip. This act of aggression has resulted in the tragic loss of lives and the injury of numerous innocent civilians.

The condemnation was emphatically conveyed by Asia Baakodah, who serves as the head of the Human Rights Department at the Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva. These remarks were delivered during the participation of the Permanent Mission in an informative session organized by the Permanent Observer Mission of the State of Palestine to the United Nations in Geneva, where human rights experts convened.

Saudi Arabia underscored the immediate need for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, the cessation of bloodshed, the provision of crucial humanitarian aid, and adherence to established international covenants and laws.

Furthermore, the Kingdom emphasized the severe consequences resulting from the application of double standards and selective adherence to international laws and UN resolutions. This transgression extends beyond the current crisis, threatening the legitimacy of the fundamental underpinnings of international law. These developments have occurred against the backdrop of the international community’s inability to exert sufficient pressure on the occupying government to accept an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian truce, as called for in the UN General Assembly resolution issued just last Friday. This failure has a detrimental impact on the preservation of international peace and security.

Saudi Arabia reiterated that ignoring the root causes of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will not pave the way for a just solution or contribute to achieving security and peace in the region. This underscores the necessity of unified efforts to support credible peace initiatives. The Kingdom further expressed its resolute rejection of the recurring targeting of densely populated civilian areas by Israeli occupation forces, continued violations of international laws, and breaches of international humanitarian laws.
