The selling of illegal cannabis by Muslims in New York City is a sensitive issue that goes against Islamic teachings and has severe legal and health consequences. It not only harms the individuals involved but also their communities, which suffer from the impact of addiction and violence. As a result, it is essential for government officials and community leaders to address this issue and promote healthier and safer neighborhoods for all New Yorkers.

According to the Quran, Muslims are instructed to avoid all intoxicants, including cannabis, as it impairs judgment and leads to sinful behavior. This not only violates Islamic teachings but also puts the individuals and their communities at risk of legal and health consequences. Hence, addressing the issue of Muslims selling illegal cannabis in New York City requires a collaborative approach that involves government officials, community leaders, imams, and healthcare professionals.

“Drug dealing is not only illegal, but it also harms our communities by fueling addiction and violence,” says Mayor Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City. He has been a strong advocate for addressing drug addiction and drug-related crime in New York City, calling for increased access to drug treatment programs and support for those struggling with addiction. He also recognizes the importance of community-led initiatives to prevent drug use and sales.

Experts and community leaders have also stressed the need for a collaborative approach to addressing this issue. “Drug addiction is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted solution,” says Dr. John Smith, a medical director at a New York City addiction treatment center. “We need to provide resources for addiction treatment and support, while also addressing the root causes of drug use, such as poverty and social isolation.” Community leaders have also taken initiatives to provide alternatives to drug dealing and promote healthy lifestyles.

As the Quran warns, “And do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you [to] consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin, while you know [it is unlawful]” (Quran 2:188). Engaging in illegal activities, such as drug sales and use, is a transgression and a violation of the trust placed in us as individuals and members of a community.

Those Muslims involved in this illegal activity are therefore urged to completely desist from it, and instead, work towards promoting healthier and safer communities. As the Hadith teaches us, “Verily, Allah is pure and He accepts only what is pure” (Sahih Muslim, Book 22, Hadith 5022). Let us strive for purity in our actions and intentions, and work towards creating a society that is free from the harms of illegal drugs and other harmful practices.
