Erdogan reaffirms support for Palestine, says no one can take Palestine’s land
President of Turkey, Recep Toyyib Erdogan has reaffirmed his country’s support for Palestine as the Muslims around the world celebrated Eidl Fitri, the holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a video address to the US Muslims on Twitter on Sunday May 24, 2020, Erdogan said, “We will not allow the Palestinian lands to be offered to anyone else.”
Speaking about the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, which the Jews called Temple Mount, Erdogan said the mosque was a red line for all Muslims in the world.
“I would like to reiterate that Al Quds Al-Sharif, the holy site of three religions and our first Kiblah, is a red line for all Muslims worldwide,” he stated.
While criticizing plans by Israel to annex parts of the occupied West Bank on July 1 based on the agreement between Benjamin Netanyahu and his rival-turned-ally, Benny Gantz, who is the leader of Blue and White party, Erdogan said such plans undermined Palestine’s sovereignty and international law.
“It is clear that the global order has long failed to produce justice, peace, serenity and order,” said Erdogan.
“Last week we witnessed that a new occupation and annexation project, which disregards Palestine’s sovereignty and international law, was put into action by Israel,” he added.
Annexation plans by Israel has garnered outrage and condemnation from the international community, Turkey inclusive.
Through the lens of international law the West Bank, including East Jerusalem are under occupied territory which gives an automatic explanations that illegalize the annexation plans and all Jewish settlement in the area.
Having declared his unwavering support for Palestine, Turkish president seized the opportunity to congratulate Muslims around the world on the celebration of Eid al Fitri holiday.
“I congratulate my American Muslim brothers and sisters’ Eid al Fitr on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Turkey.
“I pray to my God that these holy days may herald an era of peace, safety, and serenity for American Muslims, the entire Islamic world, and humankind,” he prayed.
“The coronavirus pandemic has shown that there are no hierarchies or privileges among any region, nation or country in the world.
“It is only through global cooperation that the problems caused by diseases, various conflicts, wars, migration, racism, Islamophobia, terrorism, and poverty that threaten humankind can be overcome,” concluded Erdogan.
