Zamaninia, Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister emerges caretaker OPEC governor

Amirhossein Zamaninia, Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister, has emerged as Iran’s caretaker OPEC Governor a week after the death Hossein Kazempour Ardebili.

Ardebili, who died of a brain hemorrhage two weeks after falling into a coma, was Iran’s representative to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries from 1995 to 2008 and again from 2013 to 2020.

Zamaninia who is a temporary replacement studied politics and law inthe US. He served under the administrations of presidents Mohammad Khatami and Hassan Rouhani as a member of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team. From 2001 to 2005, he also served as Iran’s ambassador to Malaysia.

As the search for a permanent governor is underway, Zamaninia would be representing Iran in different executive capacities and decision making processes at the OPEC.
